What advice would you give... to yourself?

I find this question absolutely fascinating.

I have seen versions of this question that limit the response to two sentences... or even two words.  If you wish to limit yourself, you can certainly take on that challenge.  I'm honestly more interested in the message than in its length.

What have you learned over the years that the younger you could have benefitted from?  What have your life experiences taught you that you wished you had known years ago?

Personally, one piece of advice I would offer to my younger self (anywhere from 15 to 25 years old) would be, "Shut up and listen."  I've always loved to discuss ideas, debate, and, frankly, argue.  I think if I had spent more time over the years truly listening, I would have gotten much more out of my various conversations.  I wish I would have realized earlier that talking is only HALF the work needed for a good conversation.  Also, if I had learned to listen earlier, I think that, by extension, I would also have learned how to display true compassion much earlier.  It just would have made so many situations that much easier.

So, if you were to write this note, what would you say?  I implore you to please share your wisdom... and I look forward to your insights!
