Scranton, PA (December 3, 2013) – Penn Foster, a leader in career-focused online and hybrid education designed to address the skills gap in America, has announced a partnership with CVS/pharmacy to provide externship training placements for students enrolled in the school’s Pharmacy Technician Program. Penn Foster is committed to providing students with accessible hands-on training opportunities, and its partnership with CVS/pharmacy insures pharmacy technician students are fully prepared to excel in their chosen careers. Through the new training program, Penn Foster students receive in-person instruction in pharmacy technician training at their pharmacy placement.
“We are thrilled to partner with the number one name in pharmacies in the nation,” said Frank Britt, CEO of Penn Foster. “Through this partnership, our students will have access to hands-on training by some of the country’s best pharmacists. Our students will graduate fully prepared to enter the workforce as trained pharmacy technicians and successfully serve their future customers, patients and employers.”
The pharmacy technician field is expected to grow by 32 percent by 2020, adding 108,300 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It is ranked 20th on U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Healthcare Jobs and 49th on U.S. News & World Report’s list of the 100 Best Jobs.
“As a pharmacy technician, it’s vitally important to have both theoretical and practical experience,” said Lee Anne Black, who recently completed the CVS/pharmacy externship training placement through Penn Foster. “My CVS/pharmacy externship gave me the chance to apply what I learned in the classroom to my work with customers, ensuring that I was prepared to earn my diploma and excel in my career.”
